Happy New Year, friends.
I’m feeling organized and ready for 2020 but also very tired. The Holidays were draining this year, more so than the last few: there was one major upset and a lot of quiet fatigue. I let myself sleep so much more than usual in the latter half of December and I have to say, I’ve no regrets. I have a life long history of not self-caring, so if nothing else, I think 2019, and the decade, ended in an honest way: I was tired, I was anxious and I was pooling my resources for whatever comes next, but I took decent care of myself.
I’m entering this year with a new strategy: defining myself by what I am, not what I once was or want to be, not by what I don’t want to be. I’ve written here before about my challenges with being present, and I still grapple with that in big ways and small, but I am really trying. I wrote a doozy of a post on goals for 2020 and it’s hard to put that out there and then walk away from it again to actually do the work to achieve those goals. Can’t I just stay in the glow of the best case scenario? No? Oh right, I have to do the work.
In an effort to acknowledge where I currently am, I’m leaving this little proclamation here, of things that I am, things that I will allow myself to be defined by. Everything else is small potatoes.
I am okay.
I am loved.
I am safe.
I am smart.
I am beautiful.
I am sexual.
I am powerful.
I am flawed.
I am growing.
I am brave.
I am enough.

You are all of those things and thanks for the reminder to care for ourselves better. Happy New Yearn
Violet this is a great post. Your declarative statements are brilliant, beautiful and amazing. You Are most definitely Enough.

Your new strategy sounds great and it’s one I’m going to try and apply in my life some more too. You are enough!
That’s probably something many of us need to be telling ourselves on a regular basis.
Being present is a great goal. I’m guilty more of looking towards the future than the past (what COULD I be if I tried harder?) But it’s easy to forget that I’m already someone that past-me wanted to be one day.
